TRAVEL

Chicago, IL

Airports

O’Hare International Airport, located 17 miles from downtown, is one of the largest airports in the world. It is North America’s major international gateway airport, servicing over 67 million passengers to and from over 200 destinations around the globe.

Midway International Airport is located 10 miles from downtown Chicago and offers another convenient travel option for visitors. It is the nation’s premier point-to-point airport, offering value-oriented leisure and business travel to over 60 destinations.

Airport – Hotel

Chicago O’Hare (ORD) International Airport is 17 miles from the hotel. Drive time is around 35-60 minutes and typical taxi fare is around $40 USD. There is also the option of taking the subway (the CTA train, also called the “L”) from the airport at $2.25 USD with a travel time of 45 minutes to downtown. When taking public transportation from O’Hare International Airport, take the Blue Line train to Monroe/Dearborn stop. Take Monroe east to the hotel and the Palmer House is on the south side of the street.

Chicago Midway (MDW) Airport is 11 miles from the hotel. Drive time is 30-40 minutes and typical taxi fare is around $40 USD. There is also the option of taking the subway (the CTA train, also called the “L”) from the airport at $2.25 USD with a travel time of 25 minutes to downtown. From Midway Airport, take the Orange Line to downtown, exiting at the Adams/Wabash stop. The Palmer House is located on the west side of Wabash Avenue.

Getting Around

Did you know? Chicago is a walking city with an easy-to-navigate downtown grid. Madison Street divides the city north and south, while State Street divides it east and west. The State/Madison intersection marks the origin of Chicago’s address grid system. Addresses are relative to the distance from that mark, with eight blocks to every mile. So an address of 3600 North Clark means that it is 36 blocks north of Madison.

From planes, trains, and automobiles to bikes and water taxis, view all transit options here.

Things to See & Do

There is something for everyone in Chicago! View the Official Visitors Guide for the city’s top attractions, dining and nightlife, shopping, arts and culture, sporting events, and everything in between.

“The conference is a valuable opportunity to network with peers at other institutions and to share pain points, innovative solutions and best practices. I’ve been able to attend three years in a row and each year I’ve gotten left with plans to improve my processes in Blue based on what I learned from conference sessions and discussions.”

– Heather Thompson, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

“I attend a variety of higher education professional development conferences. My first Bluenotes was among the best in my career. This excellent event is a continuation of the product/service excellence we receive from Explorance. Thank you.”

– Rob Downie, Fanshawe College

“A great conference that was very worthwhile attending, both for meeting practitioners from around the world, and the high quality papers and mix of topics from increasing response rates through to machine learning applied to text analytics. There were so many good sessions, and I am still writing up all of my notes.”

– Tim Linsey, Kingston University
